Install Patronus and verify a first protected AI interaction.

Use a harmless prompt to verify the path from your AI tool to a Patronus trace.

Before you start

You need a supported macOS or Windows device, a Patronus installer from Downloads, and permission to approve system components. Use an AI tool from the compatibility guide.

1. Install and finish setup

Follow Installation for your operating system. Complete the certificate and system approvals shown in the app. If setup reports a missing component, finish its repair before continuing.

For an organization-managed device, complete enrollment with the account that belongs to that organization.

2. Start protection

Open Patronus and start protection. Confirm the app reports an active state. Resolve any connection, approval, or restart notice before continuing.

Open a fresh terminal session if your AI client is a CLI or SDK. Existing processes may retain their previous certificate and proxy settings.

3. Make one recognizable request

Ask your AI tool:

Keep the test free of customer data, credentials, and private source code.

4. Find the trace

Open Traces and find the interaction by time and app. Review its request, audits, and policy decisions. The trace confirms observation; its details show which analysis and actions ran.

If the request succeeds but no trace appears, check runtime certificate settings and inspection limits. Do not use the AI tool’s successful response as proof of protection.
