Plans and limits
API keys, monthly Scan Units, token rate limits, and input size limits for each Patronus plan.
Every plan uses the same Scan API and the same Scan Unit formula: one Scan Unit per started 1,000 input tokens, with a minimum of one per submission. Plans differ in their allowances and limits.

- Anonymous scans are the rate-limited website and Security CLI scans without an API key. They use a separate daily allowance, return results directly, and cannot be polled later.
- Scan Units are shared by all API keys and authenticated MCP calls on one account. Monthly windows reset at UTC calendar boundaries. Free and Personal have no separate daily quota.
- The token balance limits how many input tokens an account can submit in a short time. It refills continuously up to its maximum. A submission needs enough Scan Units and enough tokens in the balance.
- Extracted scan content is the canonical text after document extraction or webpage and MCP metadata preparation. Raw document upload is the size of the uploaded files before extraction.
Exceeding a monthly allowance or the token balance returns HTTP 429 with a typed quota object; inputs above a size or per-submission token limit are rejected as input errors. See errors, quotas, and retries for the response format and retry guidance.
